THE INTENDED USE

The Exceptional HEROES™ therapeutic devices were created for multiple therapeutic purposes. They use five senses, serving to increase the release of “happy” hormones and calming our nervous system.

The evenly distributed weight works as Deep Pressure Therapy or Deep Touch Therapy. It helps the body change into a balanced mode, slowing down the heart rate, relaxing muscles, and improving circulation. “Happy” hormones such as endorphins are released, and a sense of calming takes over.  Not everyone experiences the same benefits from Deep Pressure Therapy, but studies have shown there are numerous positive effects of its use. 

The soundbox included with our Exceptional HEROES™ therapeutic devices contains the sound of Tibetan Singing Bowls for controlled breathing. The sound makes a pattern, with intervals of 4 and 8 seconds between the chimes. By breathing in for 4 seconds and out for 8 seconds, the user does a controlled breathing exercise. Controlled breathing has been known to reduce stress, promote concentration and improve vitality. The calming effect of listening to the bells and adding the breathing of 4/8 can bring an erratic behavior to a more focused, relaxed, grounded state of mind.

The textured paws have been created with the user in mind, helping with processing differences. The front paws that are covered in Velcro® Brand hook — the rough texture can be used to reduce episodes of Skin Picking Disorder — a compulsive condition caused by trauma, illness, and/or other psychiatric diagnoses. The hook is covered by attached Minky mittens when not in use. 

The back paws are stuffed to create a stress ball effect, which is another method of coping with stress and anxiety. Stress balls have been used for treatment of such physical conditions as carpal tunnel, arthritis, hand injuries. This method is also used for stroke victims’ rehabilitation.

The collar has been made as a diffuser for aromatherapy. A few drops of essential oil (sold separately) will give a scent that can enrich the therapeutic experience, helping relieve anxiety and depression.

The exterior is designed after actual therapy and service animals. The Exceptional HEROES™ therapeutic devices can be used as a substitute for those who are allergic to animals. The friendly, familiar shape of an animal can improve communication with patients who have difficulties interacting with other people.

THE USABILITY ENGINEERING PROCESS

Weighted Beads

Each of the Exceptional HEROES™ therapeutic devices was made with pliable legs to be placed across a lap, chest or back, or carried around just like a real rabbit or dog. The micro-glass beads have been methodically measured out for evenly distributed weight — not only in the body but in legs and paws as well. The compartments inside the body that contains the beads are separate from the stuffing. The only possibility of them mixing is by intentional penetration with a sharp object.  

Soundbox

The soundbox frequency has been calibrated to the exact decimals as required by 432MHz. The controlled breathing sound has been approved by mental health experts and breathing specialists. The soundbox has been designed especially for our devices, made of the best plastic materials.

Fabrics and stitchwork

The 100% wool collar has been sewn with a backing of 500 Denier coated Cordura Nylon Fabric.  This is a water-resistant fabric that will not allow the essential oil to penetrate the collar to reach the Exceptional HEROES™ therapeutic device. The decorative vests are all made with the Cordura fabric. The eyes and mouths have been embroidered to prevent any removable parts that could cause harm to the user.  The chamber behind the neck of each device has been sewn apart from the rest of the body so that there is no access to the stuffing and beads.  

THE RISK MANAGEMENT PROCESS

Because of its weight for Deep Pressure Therapy, it is recommended that the Exceptional HEROES™ therapeutic device are not used without adult supervision and/or adult knowledge. The devices are NOT to be placed on the face or mouth. The collar diffuser and/or essential oil should not be digested or placed in the mouth. The removable collar and vests are intended for use on the device only and NOT on any other device, animal, or person.  DO NOT continue to use your device if there is any discomfort or suspected malfunction. DO NOT use this device on persons unable to remove this product without help — such as infants, children under 6, or some elderly. 

STANDARDS

All precautions have been taken to comply with safety and quality evaluation. The eyes, nose, and mouth have been embroidered to remove any choking hazards.  The collar and standard vest have been designed with the safe use of one size Velcro® Brand hook to eliminate additional string adjustments. The carrier vest zipper, as well as the device zipper, are both child-approved zippers. The soundbox requires adult assembly, battery removal or replacement of batteries can only be performed by the supervising adult. The soundbox IS NOT water-resistant and cannot be placed in water.
